Some cyclists were revealed to have their performance boosted by as much as 45 percent. These cyclists were able to cover distances faster than they normally would have—as much as 15 percent faster. Their circulatory rate was also found to be enhanced with improved stroke volumes and cardiac output.

Much of the reason for this lies behind the ability of Viagra to boost blood flow levels. By repressing the actions of an enzyme pde-5, Viagra causes the various muscles in the body—including blood vessels, to significantly relax. With vessels such as arteries in a more relaxed state, the heart is able to send even more blood through them to the required organs.

For sufferers of erectile dysfunction, this means the penile areas are able to receive boosted blood flow. This is of some significance because erectile dysfunction is found to be mostly caused (physiologically) by a reduction of blood flow into the male sex organ. In healthy conditions, erection is caused as a result of the engorgement of tissues housed in the penis from the increased flow of blood. However, in cases of impotency the male organ is unable to receive sufficient blood flow and thus an erection is hard or impossible to achieve. With its relaxant effect, Viagra is able to ensure that the arteries are able to expand permitting the required amount of blood to flow, thereby causing an erection.

However it is not just the penile arteries that are affected by Sildenafil Citrate, other arteries, such as the pulmonary arteries are affected as well.
