The introduction of Viagra

As Pfizer—the  pharmaceutical company responsible for the production of Viagra, prepared for the announcement of its new drug it had no misplaced illusion as to the difficulty of the mission that lay ahead of it.

In order to succeed in the company’s bid to provide the world’s first anti-impotence pill, the company would have to not just convince the world that the Viagra pill worked; it would also have to convince men who suffered from erectile dysfunction that it was okay to seek help for their impotency condition.

Men have always been inferior when it came to discussion of their impotency. This is because most men are of the opinion that being impotent makes them less masculine than they really are. This notion has not been helped by the attitude of other, healthier men and women who make fun of their companion’s plight.

Medical reports show that more than 50% of the men who suffer from impotency fail to seek medical aid because of this feeling of inferiority.

Amongst couples, it is not uncommon for husbands to hide the truth behind their status for as long as they can, thereby leaving their wives or partners  confused about the true reason behind their sudden sexual aloofness—a situation that ultimately results in the creation of even more problems in the family.

And so in the months subsequent to its release, Pfizer began on a long string of adverts designed to increase the social awareness and appreciation of erectile dysfunction amongst the public.

The adverts strove to show that the development of erectile dysfunction was very common and absolutely nothing to be ashamed about. In order to better achieve this Pfizer chose the voices of prominent images to sell its gospel. Football legend Pele, for instance was used. So also was Hugh Hefner, the lord of the playboy mansion as well as the like named magazine.

Viagra ads were run prominently during prime periods and programmes such as the super bowl. The slogan Viva Viagra was so well marketed that it soon became common in over fifty countries. Nations around the world began to approve the  sale and use of Viagra although in most instances, this was done with the compulsory requirement of a prescription.

As the sale of Viagra pills soared as the pharmaceutical company Pfizer began to record profits well in excess of $300 million every year. The message to the board and the world was simple. The idea of Viagra had finally been accepted.

Today Viagra pills are synonymous with the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Although there are other companies which soon after began production of their own anti-impotence pills (i.e. Levitra and Cialis) Viagra is still the prominent choice used for the treatment of impotency.

The acceptance and appeal of Viagra has also been greatly increased by the presence of online pharmacies. Much in the same way that the adverts of Viagra urged affected men to become bolder in their acceptance of their conditions the presence of the internet has allowed men to buy their Viagra tablets without fears of suffering from the opinions of the social world.

Viagra pills are recognized for trademark diamond shape and blue color. They carry the name Pfizer on one end and the contained dosage on the other end. This can be any of 25mg, 50mg or a 100mg.
