Its acquisition by Pfizer is the latest in a series of mergers that have spanned the last 7 years. In 2000, for instance, Pfizer acquired the pharmaceutical company Warner Lambert for a record $93.4 billion.

This was shortly followed 3 years later with the acquisition of another pharmaceutical company Pharmacia for $60. All these have ensured that Pfizer has maintained its number one position as the largest and most productive company in the world.
